I think that new media should be used more for educational purposes. My thoughts are mainly for younger children because their learning and studying methods are crucial at these points. Class work, notes, and homework should be put on a universal platform that the kids can get used to from the start. There are systems like this now but schools have not fully switched over to digital. I think that these online platforms to offer a collaborative environment for students to talk to each other and ask questions about assignments. Similar to the discussion boards on blackboard but mixed with virtual characters of the kids. If the platform is easy to use and navigate, then the kids would be more inclined to use it. They would also be able to directly ask teachers questions and even access videos of the class. By combining a platform that is easy to use and transferring all normal school work to the digital platform, it will allow kids to keep better track on their homework and also have an alternative way of learning. This platform can help students that tend to forget their work at home or in school, and the students who have classifications and need extra help.
Hi Jocelyn, I like your idea of applying new media in the field of education. New technologies can help students can enhance their classroom experience and reinforce what the learned. I did some related research for my term paper. Google was able to help students studying journalism in mobile reporting, data visualization, digital mapping and fact checking. By bringing technology to classroom, students can experience new ways of learning and field practices where it wasn't possible a few years ago.
ReplyDeleteThat sounds great. I wish I had known that before my paper so that I could have done some research on that topic. But yes the merge between education and technology will make it accessible for people who didn't have it before.
