HW Creativity

YouTube was one of the first video sharing websites that allowed you to edit your videos on their website. It has given people access to software for free if they don't have the an application for that already on their computer. Besides the access to video editing software, YouTube has allowed people to share their creativity and become inspired by each other. In the article "Disney Tolerates a Rap Parody of Its Critters. But Why?", by Brooks Barnes, Barnes talks about specific videos that are a bunch of short snippets from cartoons to make it look like the cartoons are singing along to the song that is put to play with it. The funny part is that the songs are top 100 songs, usually a R&B song. The problem with this is that companies like Disney and Nickelodeon have strong copyrights on all of their cartoons. When their cartoons are used without permission the person sampling it is in violation of a law.

I think that people that use and sample cartoons should be allowed to do so without their creation being taken down. This allows them to express themselves and lets other people enjoy their work. I personally enjoy looking at the videos of old Mickey Mouse cartoons with a rap song on top of it. Its funny and enjoyable. As long as the person sampling the cartoon doesn't do anything to harm the actual cartoon, I think people should be allowed to use it.
